Beautiful antique English inkwell with tray by Charles Boyton featuring a sterling silver tray with elegant hand-engraved decoration and a faceted crystal inkwell. Pieces like this are typically referred to as an “inkstand” or “inkwell on stand” and were popular during the late Victorian to Edwardian period, roughly 1890–1915.
The ornate engraving and scroll feet are very much in line with high-quality English sterling desk accessories of the era. The crystal well with sterling lid would originally have held ink for dip pens, while the long recessed groove across the tray served as a pen rest.
This piece is clearly marked on both the tray and the Ink well top CB with the panther and the lion pull up. it is 8 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches deep and 6 inches tall. It is in wonderful age-appropriate condition no dings or dense as always could use a better polishing.
